ELLIS COUNTY – Among other cities in Ellis County and southern Dallas County, sign-ups to run for a city council seat begin Jan. 16 through Feb. 15.
Packets to be filled out and returned can be picked up at City Halls during business hours.
In Red Oak, council seats 2 Tim Lightfoot, Ron Wilson place 4 and 5 are up for reelection. Scott Lindsey currently holds position 5, but according to Deputy City Secretary Cayrn Stevens, he has timed out and will not be re-running.
She didn’t have any information on any other possible candidates.
Ferris positions to be re-filled this term are Place 2 Rick Barrett, Place 3 Bobby Lindsey and Place 5 Sherie Chapman.
Michael Martinez, who ran unsuccessfully last year against now Councilman Jay Walsh, said he would probably run for the place 2 position since Barrett’s work will prevent him from running this time.
Rudy Amor has plans to challenge Lindsey’s seat, and Chapman will re-run for her position since she currently serves the unexpired term of former councilwoman Carol Wright.
The elections throughout the county will be held in May.
Check with your city halls for more information about running for office.
