Body

WILMER – I’m going to tell my story as a Wilmer K9 on the job.

My name is Mac, and you already like me – because I am a dog.

You might not like me though if you are a criminal, because my handsome demeanor can turn pretty ugly if I must chase you – but hey, I’m just doing my job.

When the Ellis County Press News Editor rode out with me and my human partner Ryan Sawyer over the weekend, I made sure she got an earful – literally – I was barking in the back seat of the police vehicle a lot.  Hey, I was just letting her and everyone around the vehicle know that I was in there and ready for business.

A little introduction – I am a three-year-old Dutch Shepherd from Holland.

My partner, Officer Sawyer, has been with the Wilmer PD for over 12 years, and I just recently joined this amazing team.

I can do drug detection, which I got to do Friday night in front of Ms. Cook.

I can also do apprehension and just general patrol work.

On Friday, my partner Sawyer and I went out to show the reporter a few of my talents. I was easily able to track one of the officers who was playing hide and seek with me. I even practiced taking off the bite sleeve he had wrapped around his arm.

Boy, was I proud.

Ms. Cook even mentioned how proud I looked. Heck yeah, I would like to see her try that feat. And I noticed she was way behind me and Officer Sawyer when I was showing her my tracking skills.

I have a good life overall; I work with a great bunch of police officers, and I get to live with my buddy Officer Sawyer, and he feeds me the best food ever.

We spend a lot of time with him teaching me the ropes – since I have only been on the job for a short time. This is my first PD job, but I like it. I know I will retire here. You would too, the benefits are great, and I get to help the City of Wilmer be the best it can be. Oh yeah, you can send me treats and goodies – I AM a dog after all.

“Officer Sawyer is well-known and well respected in the community, and most citizens and friends refer to him as Officer “Red,” said Wilmer Police Department Chief Victor Kemp of the K9 team. “Mac was an important addition to the team as well.”
