WILMER – The City of Wilmer’s “Give What you Can Food Drive” ended this past Tuesday as residents from around the community dropped off canned and non-perishable food items to city hall.

Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta along with the company Medline, recently donated hand sanitizer to the city, worked together to initiate the canned food drive,

A city spokesperson said, “You don’t have to be in need to receive food items when the food drive is over.”

The city received a call from Medline asking if they would team up for the canned food drive this month.

“Medline was also encouraging their employees to participate in the food drive too,” the spokesperson noted.

Residents and Medline employees collected the food and received donations until this past Tuesday.

Donated items will be distributed at two local churches.

Both Praise Fellowship Church with Pastor Favors and Calvary Church with Pastor Rodriguez will receive the donations to also assist those members of the church who have been impacted recently due to the pandemic and other financial hardships.
