WILMER – The city of Wilmer’s Town Hall meeting late last week was led by city leaders; Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta; City Councilmember Candy Madrigal; and Elizabeth Barrientos, Wilmer’s Economic Development Corporation, Type A, president.
The meeting highlighted details from a recent trip city leaders made to the ICSC event (Innovating Commerce Serving Communities) last month in Las Vegas.
The Town Hall Meeting provided those leading the meeting a platform to share their experiences with residents concerning city growth while at the same time outlining CSC’s purpose.
That purpose being a forward-thinking approach for the promotion and elevation of both marketplaces and spaces where people shop, dine, work, play, and gather.
At the event Wilmer’s representatives were able to take advantage of approximately 800 exhibitors including representatives from cities, EDCs, retail industries, real estate, and others.
The event also offered an opportunity for attendees to establish round-the-clock, in-person networking connections with retailers including Chipotle, Jersey Mike’s Subs, and Kroger, to name a few.
The speaker’s panel at the event was a highlight offering an array of learning opportunities too.
The building of industry knowledge and professional development workshops also served to facilitate innovative ideas regarding the needs of cities in today’s times.
Panels included “How to Rebuild Thriving Cities Beyond the Pandemic,” “Marketplace Innovation: Success Stories of Mall Revitalization” and “Grocery Groundbreakers: Redefining the Experience.”
Petta, Madrigal and Barrientos expressed at the Town Hall meeting they were especially inspired for the city by the event’s keynote speaker, Dwyane Wade.
Wade shared highlights from his own whirlwind career as well as insights from his business ventures off the court, including Way of Wade, his basketball and lifestyle apparel brand with 11 retail stores.
