WILMER – The City of Wilmer held its official Oath of Office Ceremony recently with Candy Madrigal and Phyllis Slough in attendance to be sworn in to sit on the City Council.
New Councilmember Jeff Steele was out of town on business.
Outgoing councilmember John Eggen was in attendance, former Mayor Pro Tem Sheila Petta was not at the Oath of Office Ceremony.
Candy Madrigal, who kept her seat in May’s election, was nominated to be Mayor Pro Tem by a vote of 4-1, a position she has held before.
Also, the Animal Shelter Project, the city has had on its agenda for a month, was put on hold for now.
The idea was to partner with neighboring city Hutchins with an interlocal agreement to join forces for an animal shelter.
One Resolution on the agenda that did pass was the 380 Agreement with PIRET.
The city may provide tax abatements to PIRET under Chapter 312 of Texas Tax Code in regard to the development of an 84.713 acre tract of land. Upon completion of the Wilmer South Wastewater Improvements as defined in the 380 agreement, the city will provide a 50% tax abatement for 10 years or until the excess Wilmer capacity has been fully reimbursed.
In the resolution it was acknowledged the cost of the improvements was $2,178,431.85 and the reimbursement balance was $1,230,814.00. The improvements were completed in February of this year.
An item on the agenda relating to a bid for the improvement of a 12-inch waterline at Millers Ferry and Swango Road in the amount of $176,510 was tabled for further discussion at the June 6 city council meeting.
