WILMER – Wilmer City Council will hold a special city council meeting Thursday night to include a public hearing regarding an ordinance amendment to the City of Wilmer Community Plan 2030 (Comprehensive Plan).

The plan was originally adopted June 18, 2009.

The amended item requiring a public hearing concerns a thoroughfare plan to realign the section of N. Goode Road between E. Pleasant Run Road and Distribution Drive.

The idea is the new plan will more easily facilitate future development.

The item was brought to the attention of the council in May of this year but was denied in order to consider other options to the realignment.

Currently the thoroughfare plan realigns N. Goode Road, south of Pleasant Run Road to Distribution Drive totaling 48 acres.

The proposed thoroughfare plan amendment will keep the current alignment of Goode Road parallel to the western boundary line including roughly 38 acres.

The idea is to extend Distribution Drive to Interstate 45.

Staff believes the proposed amendment to the thoroughfare plan will keep traffic patterns consistent to the current patterns while at the same time allow for a more cohesive development of the affected properties.

The current plan, if not amended, could also create disruption in the future regarding a detention pond that will disrupt drainage patterns.

By approving the amended thoroughfare plan amendment the current traffic and drainage patterns would not be disturbed.
