WILMER – Wilmer’s newly elected Mayor Sheila Petta was appointed to the Texas Municipal League Small Cities Advisory Council earlier this month.

This will be Petta’s first time to serve, as she is serving in her first term as Wilmer’s mayor.

The mayor will be representing TML Region 13 (North Central Texas-Dallas Area) on the Council.

“I am excited to serve on the Small Cities Advisory Council and to advocate on behalf of all small cities,” Petta said after the appointment.

“I look forward to working alongside the TML Board of Directors and their staff.”

TML was founded in 1913, and now serves more than 1,160 towns and cities throughout Texas.

The league’s mission is to empower Texas cities to serve citizens through serving the needs and advocating for the interests of its members.

Not only does TML offer legal guidance and information on municipal issues, representation for cities on state and federal legislation, training, and other resources,

The group’s advisory council’s purpose also has the task of advising the TML board of directors and staff regarding ways in which the League’s services to small cities can be enhanced while still being consistent with the league’s resources and the needs of the overall organization.

Jacqueline Redin, TML Assistant Director of Member Service, welcomed Petta by saying, “Congratulations on your appointment… it’s a great group of city officials.”
