WILMER – The Wilmer City Council passed a resolution at Thursday night’s meeting adopting the new Dallas County voting equipment.
The equipment is the ES&S Express Vote Universal Voting System (Ballot Marking Devices), EVS 6.0.2.0, Firmware 2.4.0.0; the ES&S DS200 Digital Precinct Scanner, EVS 6.0.2.0, Firmware 2.17.0.0.; and ES&S’ Model DS850 High-Speed Scanner/Tabulator, Version 1, EVS 6.0.2.0. and the vote also approves any necessary ancillary parts and services required for the new voting tabulation system equipment.
This new equipment will be used for all city elections.
City staff noted this new voting system Wilmer has approved was certified by the Texas Secretary of State in November 2018, by the United States Election Assistance Commission in October 2018. On Sept. 19, 2019, the Commissioner’s Court of Dallas County approved the system as well.
City council also nominated Mona Dixon from Lancaster for the city’s vote for the Dallas Central Appraisal District Board.
This will be the city’s vote for the fourth member of that board.
On Nov. 21, 2019, the city council voted unanimously to nominate Mona Dixon from Lancaster. Tallies initially received required a runoff election since no one candidate received the needed 16 votes.
In accordance with the Property Tax Code, each incorporated city except the city of Dallas, which appoints one member, has the right to cast a vote by an official resolution for one candidate from the candidates nominated as the fourth member of the Dallas Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.
The Dallas Central Appraisal District submitted the Runoff nominations for consideration, which were nominees Michael Hurtt (incumbent) from DeSoto and Dixon.
The DCAD term is two years and begins this month. Cedar Hill and Lancaster also cast its vote to Dixon.
