KINGS BAY, GA – A Waxahachie native is stationed at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, homeport to all East Coast ballistic-missile and guided-missile submarines.
Petty Officer 1st Class Arthur Henderson, a 2001 Waxahachie High School graduate, joined the Navy 20 years ago and will retire from the Navy in November.
Today, Henderson serves as a machinist mate, whose responsibilities include operating and maintaining ship machinery.
“I joined the Navy three days after September 11 because I refused to let the events of September 11 change our country,” said Henderson.
“I didn’t want anyone else attacking us in our own backyard. I went to bootcamp on Jan. 23, 2002.”
