WAXAHACHIE – Last week, Waxahachie Police Department Officer Curtis Farmer and partner K-9 Mattis stopped a vehicle on southbound IH 35-E at the 397-mile marker for speeding.

During the traffic stop Officer Farmer detected the smell of marijuana coming from inside the 2022 Toyota Sienna, which was registered out of California.

The driver, Ruben Mkrtchyan, 65, is a resident of Kernville, Calif, and was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Farmer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and then with the assistance of Mattis, a dual purpose dogs that is certified in narcotic detection and patrol functions, the searched resulted in the seizure of 41.5 pounds of marijuana.

Mkrtchyan was arrested for possession of marijuana over 5 lbs under 50 lbs.
