WAXAHACHIE – The Waxahachie Fire-Rescue recently deployed three of its members to West Texas to help with potential extreme fire weather conditions.

Waxahachie Fire-Rescue reported, “These dedicated individuals answered the call during the Christmas season, leaving their families to help protect others in a time of great need.

“Please join us in praying for their safety, a successful mission, and a safe return home.

“We also extend our deepest gratitude for their selfless service and unwavering dedication.”

West Texas has been experiencing significant extreme fire weather conditions during the month of December, which has led to an elevated wildfire risk across the region.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also activated state wildfire response resources due to the increased danger.

“As Texas closely monitors potential wildfire threats, our state is ready to deploy all necessary resources to at risk communities,” Governor Abbott said.

“I strongly urge Texans to create an emergency plan, limit any activities that can cause a spark, and heed the guidance of state and local officials.

“Together, we can prevent elevating the risk of these wildfires and protect our homes, businesses, and each other.”

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, increased wildfire potential exists across North and West Texas including Texoma and the Panhandle before expanding West to the South Plains, Permian Basin, and Big Country. Dry, dormant vegetation and breezy conditions may contribute to elevated fire weather conditions in these areas.

Abbott has also made state wildfire response resources available to support local wildfire response operations.
