WAXAHACHIE – The City of Waxahachie will offer some relief to residents due to COVID-19.

In the months ahead, the city council has approved a program to offer financial relief to citizens.

“We are experiencing something that we’ve never been through, and many of our residents are feeling the economic effects,” said Waxahachie Mayor David Hill.

“We put a plan in place to help our local small businesses, and wanted to also extend the same gesture to our residents.”

The plan will help assist residents and comes one week after the city council approved in a 4-1 vote to also provide financial assistance to local small businesses.

The scheme set out for residential assistant will offer relief in two ways.

According to a press release, it will first offer Waxahachie residents who are water bill payers a refund on their water deposit. This will mean a check in the mail in the amount of around $90.

Second, a residential trash service monthly charge is $15.32, including tax.

This second program will include a three-month relief plan to reduce each residential trash service fee to $.01. This equates to a $45.89 benefit to the 10,887 residential water customers.

Together, these breaks could equal up to over $135 in savings over the next three months for some Waxahachie residents.

In addition to these programs, the city already enacted residential relief efforts related to waiving late payment fees and suspending water disconnections for non-payment. These programs would continue as well.

“While not a tremendous amount of money, we believe this shows the city’s desire to not only help our small businesses, but our citizens directly,” said Waxahachie City Manager Michael Scott. “Every dollar counts, especially in times like these. Mayor Hill and our Council continue to make taking care of our community a priority, and these actions will help Waxahachie get through this time.”

CITIZEN’S CONVENIENCE STATION
