ITALY – When Andrea Pylant wanted to take a shower last Friday before heading to her friend’s birthday party, she could not – because the Ellis County town in which she lives, Italy – had no water.

“We have no water to do anything right now,” she lamented.

It was apparently due to a water main break.

Last Saturday, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said Italy’s water system was such that customers needed to boil their water prior to consumption.

This was to “ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes.”

The boiling water was to be applied for water to be used for drinking, cooking, or making ice, and a notice on the City of Italy website said the water should be “boiled and cooled prior to use.

The water boiling notice was rescinded Monday of this week.

Ellis County Commissioner Precinct 3 Paul Perry said the geology of the soil in the area can cause fluctuations that often result in water main lines breaking.
