ELLIS COUNTY – Even those Ellis County residents as far south as Italy saw a day of snowfall this past Sunday.

In fact, weather reports indicated the entire county got a sprinkling.

That sprinkling was part of a larger system of rain and snow that blanketed the state from the Texas Panhandle to the capitol in Austin.

In parts of Dallas, those living there saw more snow than they have seen in about five years.

It didn’t last long.

Most of the snowflakes around the area were wet, so accumulation was not a threat to drivers on the roads or highways since it mostly melted.

Even so, flights were canceled or delayed at both DFW and Love Field Airports, but it was a small number – only around 20 canceled and 75 delayed.

In this area however, snow and rain doesn’t last long.

While area temperatures dipped to below freezing Sunday and Monday according to www.weathertoday.com, the 10-day forecast shows signs of a real climb in temperatures. By Thursday, the high is expected to be in the low-60s.

By the weekend residents can expect lows to be in the mid-30s, and highs to be in the mid-to-upper 50s.

Even though it usually snows yearly somewhere in the area, there is rarely a chance for families to get out and make snow people. In fact, the last major local snowfall was in early 2015, with about 3.5 inches according to the Weather Service.

And the Old Farmer’s Almanac dating back to 1792 has predicted a light winter and warmer-than-normal temperatures for most of the United States in 2020-2021.

Wondering if the Old Farmer’s Almanac usually gets it right?

The authors of the Almanac check on the predictions every year, and reportedly as of last year they were a little over 80-percent correct.
