ELLIS COUNTY – Last week’s Sherwin Williams fire in Garland will be affecting Ellis County this week.
Ellis County Office of Emergency Management was notified that the tributaries and waterways in Ellis County feeding into the Trinity River will be affected due to the runoff caused by the fire.
A statement issued by the Ellis County Office of Emergency Management said there is no danger to the public at this time.
However, as a precaution the EPA activated the Poison Control Center for this disaster.
Those residents feeling ill with the suspicion of coming into contact with the impacted waterway or tributaries call 1-800-222-1222 for more information.
There will be damage to the living wildlife in the waterways and it was advised the contamination will kill the fish.
The public is advised not to fish or have contact with these waterways during the cleanup activities and contaminant testing, which encompasses the notable presence of the firefighting foam AFFF now seen on the top surface of the water.
This is an ongoing situation, and the Ellis County Office of Emergency Management will release updates as needed.
