RED OAK – On June 14, the Red Oak City Council approved an ordinance authorizing a $5,657,000 bond.
The Area #1 pit bond is to start building infrastructure in that area.
Payments will be $1,183 a year for 30 years, regardless of home value going up because of the fixed rate.
Upon completion, it’s anticipated to increase $105 million of taxable evaluation.
The city council unanimously approved the motion, making the transaction complete.
The 2021 CO Bond Issue was also unanimously approved for notice of publication of intent, meaning it has to be posted for 21 days in the newspaper and 45 continuous days on the Red Oak official website, authorizing the reimbursement resolution for the bond so they can go ahead and start using the funds.
The council went over the voluntary annexation for two different territories being annexed into the City of Red Oak.
One area was around 206 acres, and the other area was around 223 acres, in separate places.
Approval will be in the next meeting. Council unanimously a resolution for an amount not to exceed $426,693.96 for the reconstruction and resurfacing of a section of Stainback Road.
Fire Chief Ben Blanton reminded everyone to conserve power because of the potential for rolling blackouts.
Blanton also mentioned the Red Oak White and Blue Event this Saturday, June 26 from 7 to 10 p.m.
The event will include live music, a dunking booth, food trucks, a fireworks display, and more.
Todd Fuller discussed the mask mandate affirming, “OSHA came out with standards stating that private business owners can have vaccinated people not wear masks and unvaccinated people wear masks.”
The mask mandate is lifted but enforcement is at the discretion of the private business.
Gloria Platt, finance director, told the council revenue was up eight percent in June from last year.
The Red Oak Public Library will open in the new, renovated municipal building as soon as they install the kiosk in the library.
Logan Ragsdale said he wanted to start a summer reading program and online reading program for students.
“There is also an app called ‘Beanstack’ that has reading challenges for students.
“There is more information on Facebook,” said Ragsdale.
Scott Williams said, “a pre-construction meeting started last week to get the site and drainage work at the Live Oaks Municipal Center under way. It is a 90-day contract.”
