ELLIS COUNTY – Registered voters often decide to sit the primary elections out.
In February, only one in five voters went to the polls to cast their vote in runoff elections.
On the ballot Tuesday, May 24 in the runoff, there are Republican and Democratic races for very important seats in Texas government.
The Attorney General seat and the Commissioner of the General Land Office seat are both on the primary runoff election ballots for the Republican and Democratic parties.
Tuesday’s election will determine the two candidates in both races in November.
REPUBLICAN PRIMARY RACES
The Attorney General race has incumbent Ken Paxton attempting to hang on to his seat against challenger George P. Bush.
For Commissioner of the General Land Office, both Dawn Buckingham and Tim Westley are contending for that seat to run in the November election.
Incumbent Wayne Christian is hoping to keep his seat as Railroad Commissioner against challenger Sarah Stogner.
Precinct Chair, Precinct 1034 has an open seat with J.J. Brookshire and Jais Munoz hoping to win the runoff for that seat.
Precinct Chair, Precinct 1055 has Terry Todd and Dorinda Sims hoping to win Tuesday night to move up to the General Election in November.
DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY RACES
The Lieutenant Governor Race has Michelle Buckley and Mike Collier hoping to win that seat for the Democratic Party side.
There are two candidates for the Attorney General seat. Both Rochelle Mercedes Garza and Joe Jaworski are battling for their name on the ballot in November.
Running in the runoff for the Comptroller of Public Accounts is Janet Dudding and Angel Luis Vega.
For the Commissioner of the General Land Office, Sandragrace Martinez and Jay Kleberg are competing for the chance to run on the ballot in November.
