RED OAK – Lines to get into the Red Oak Walmart snaked outside the door late last week, with residents waiting to get inside the store to buy needed provisions after the winter weather stopped the city and county in its tracks due to snow and ice.

Only one door leading into the store’s grocery section was open, and customers waiting to enter was reminiscent of either a Soviet breadline or more recently the “COVID-19 days” when stores were paranoid about allowing too many shoppers inside at one time.

Outside the store, a shopper leaving said the problem was due to not enough employees in the store.

Nevertheless, when shoppers got their turn, they loaded up, and later exited the store with plenty of provisions.

The city of Red Oak lost power last week during the winter weather, and experienced sporadic outages.

Residents were warned to continue to be prepared for outages as the precipitation continued and ice developed on trees and powerlines.

At one point there were 43 outages reported in Ellis County – and one in Red Oak. On the Red Oak Facebook page one post said, “ERCOT is operating at normal conditions.”

Oncor seemed to have power outages taken care of in a reasonable amount of time, but it was noted they were having to do switching to balance the load.
