Red Oak police stop burglary in progress

RED OAK – Two 18-year-old Dallas residents were arrested last week when Red Oak police were alerted to the burglary of a home in the 200 block of Brooks Court in the city’s Waterview Farms subdivision.

On Thursday, Sept. 16 at around 5 p.m. Red Oak police were called to a burglary of a habitation in progress.

The homeowner told police he was not home, but his alarm was going off and that his interior camera had been disabled.

When police arrived, they found a silver Mercedes Benz with the hazard lights on occupied by Courtnie Flowers parked on the road next to the residence.

Police spotted a second suspect – Deuntea Barber – walking from the residence with a variety of items in his arms.

Barber saw police and began running before jumping a fence.

The Mercedes Benz also fled the residence and was later stopped by Red Oak police.

A loaded AK-47 was recovered during the inventory of the vehicle.

Barber was apprehended by police on foot while he was hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Waterview Parkway.

All property from the residence was recovered and returned to the home owner.

Flowers was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation, evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and unlawfully carrying a weapon with a $100,000 bond for the three charges.

Barber was arrested and charged with burglary of habitation and aggravated robbery with a Dallas County Sheriff’s Office warrant. His bond was set at $300,000.

Both suspects were initially booked into the Red Oak Jail and then arraigned and transferred to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
