RED OAK – Red Oak Police Department Assistant Police Chief Marc Schroeder was promoted last month from Lieutenant to his new position.
He has been employed with the Red Oak PD for 19 years. Prior to that, he was with the Lacy Lakeview PD making his law enforcement career a total of 24 years so far.
Schroeder was chosen from, including himself, six applicants for the assistant police chief position.
The position was a newly created opportunity offered in this year’s budget.
Schroeder cited his time with the department as the stepping stone for his future success in his new job.
“The position of the Administrative Lieutenant and Public Information Officer has provided me the opportunity to not only cultivate new relationships with the community and the media but to build on existing relationships,” Schroeder said of his promotion.
“In addition, the position provided me the freedom to create a myriad of new programs and services to assist our community.”
Schroeder said as Assistant Chief the new opportunity will provide him with new challenges such as oversight of every division within the Red Oak Police Department and the supervisory personnel within these divisions.
There will also be additional new challenges for him including budget planning for the police department, obtaining department accreditation through the Texas Police Chiefs Association and representing the Red Oak Police Department within various committees or boards.
“I have advanced through the ranks trying to improve the agency with each position that I have held,” he said.
“I have always been motivated by improving the quality of service that we can provide to our community as well as improving the agency for my colleagues.
“I pursued this position because I believe that I am the best candidate to bring these improvements to fruition.”
Policing has changed over the years since Schroeder began and he explained, “Policing is constantly evolving and the expectations of our community guardians will continue to grow with these changes.”
He referred to recruitment of qualified applicants to fill vacant positions as one major change over the years.
During his time with the department however, Schroeder has been responsible for recruitment and said, “He will continue to reassess and strategize on new and innovative recruitment strategies to recruit professional and ethical guardians for our community.”
During Schroeder’s recent pinning ceremony, Lieutenant Jason Esquibel and Lieutenant Chris Schleif were also promoted and pinned.
Esquibel will be taking over Schroeder’s Public Information Officer duties.
“I am extremely proud of the commitments to excellence that each of these men have made to our agency as they have progressed through the ranks as well,” Schroeder said of the two promotions alongside his own last month.
“This was an absolute privilege to promote these competent and capable men. I know they will do great things for the department and our community,” said Red Oak Police Chief Garland Wolf of the department promotions.
