RED OAK – Two people were killed Sunday afternoon when the Silver Mitsubishi Raider being driven by 36-year-old David Adam Lynch of Waxahachie left the road and collided with a storage facility in the 2600 block of E. Ovilla Road (FM 664).
Both Lynch and the juvenile male passenger, whose name has not been released, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Red Oak police were called to the major accident Sunday afternoon at around 3:45 p.m. Dispatchers for the Northern Ellis Emer-gency Dispatch Center had received several calls alerting police to a single vehicle accident.
Witnesses reported the single vehicle had collided with the storage facility, and that both the vehicle and the storage facility were on fire.
Red Oak Police and Red Oak Fire Rescue arrived on the scene minutes after the accident was reported.
According to a statement issued by the Red Oak Police Department, based on a preliminary investigation the vehicle struck the Spare Room Mini Warehouse at 2601 E. Ovilla Road for unknown reasons after leaving the road.
The vehicle was traveling east when it collided with the storage facility.
Police reported both occupants of the vehicle appeared to have been trapped in the vehicle after the collision.
“During the collision and subsequent fire, both occupants sustained life-ending injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Dan Cox at approximately 4:41 p.m.,” officials stated.
The accident remains under investigation.
Red Oak Lt. Marc Schroeder said he did not know what was in the storage facility that was struck by the vehicle.
It is unknown what caused the fire.
It was also reported other area fire departments responded to the fire and accident including Ovilla, Midlothian and Waxahachie.
