WILMER – Good business and a good business neighbor.
Wilmer’s local Portacool Distribution Center, a worldwide manufacturing leader in the portable evaporative cooling industry recently gifted both the city’s police and fire departments with generous donations of money.
The donation was received by Wilmer Police Chief Victor Kemp and Wilmer Fire Chief Mark Hamilton last week. Portacool representatives Torrance Pope, John Mays, Rodney Roderick, and Kimberly McElroy were on hand for the presentation.
McElroy expressed the company’s appreciation and support for the city’s first responders.
The company representatives thanked the police department for driving through the Portacool business location and checking on the company whenever needed.
Both the police and fire departments were presented with $1,500 each.
“As Portocool has invested into our department’s mission, we will invest the donation back into the community through training and community outreach,” Chief Kemp said.
Fire Chief Hamilton added, “The fire department has partnered with the National Fire Safety Council to provide fire prevention material for school age children. “We ask local businesses for donations to cover the cost for the materials. Portacool donated $1,500, and that will provide enough material for 500 children.
“This is the largest donation the fire department has ever received, but we also have smaller local businesses that have been donating to us for years to help us cover the cost.”
