MIDLOTHIAN – Midlothian Police recently reminded residents phone scammers or at it again.

The PD said they had received several reports of a phone scam in which suspects are calling residents in Ellis County and claiming to be with the Ellis County Sheriff Department.

As in other scams of the same kind, the scammers tell victims they have unpaid tickets or warrants and them direct them to send money or bitcoin to the Sheriff’s Department electronically.

The Midlothian post about the scam noted, “In some cases, they have even used real names of ECSO deputies or captains.”

A reminder, no Police Department or Sheriff’s Office will ever ask anyone to pay for your warrants or bond in this manner.

If you receive a call like this, or any call that you feel is suspicious, contact the Midlothian Police Department at (972) 775-3333 and ask to speak with a police officer to file a report.

Other scams to be aware of include receiving text messages or emails from unidentified numbers or email addresses.

Do not hit the link no matter what the message is telling you as most often it is a scam.

it is from your bank telling you there is a fraudulent charge being investigated call your bank immediately and do not respond to messages via email or by text messages.
