OVILA – The OSL dinner on July 10, saw a larger than ever pile of supplies to share with our wonderful community.

Ovilla Service League has been serving their community since 1973.

The League started out small and at one point only had four members but soon built their membership up with individuals willing to serve.

As of 2025, membership is up to 24 working around the year to provide for our first responders through fundraising: raffle at Ovilla Heritage Day in September, Annual Dinner in February and Bake Sale in May.

The Ovilla Service League gathers in July for a potluck dinner to celebrate their prior work and donate Back to School Supplies to be distributed by North Ellis County Outreach located in Red Oak, Texas.

Rachel Huber, a OSL member for 51 years, was contacted to give the history of the school supplies donated by Ovilla Service League members.

Rachel said this program has been supported by the League for about 15 years.

“How it began, Ovilla Service League had reached out to North Ellis County Outreach on new ways the group could support the community.  NECO shared the need of school supplies to assist families preparing their students for the new school year.

“The Ovilla Service League enjoys this program as most of us no longer have school age children.

“We love shopping for crayons, pencils, back packs and other needed items knowing these students will have the tools needed to have a great school year.”
