OVILLA – The City of Ovilla has a new police chief.

Former Ovilla Lieutenant Joey Bennett was named as the new police chief for the city on July 3.

Ovilla Mayor Richard Dormier said, “We were pleased that Lieutenant Bennett expressed interest in the position of Police Chief and that our city manager recommended him for the position.  His many years of service and experience in the city will be valuable as we move forward.”

Bennett has 25 years in law enforcement with the past 16 years serving the Ovilla Police Department.

“As a department, our mission will remain being dedicated to working with our citizens to provide a safe and happy community for everyone who lives in or visits Ovilla,” Bennett said when asked about what his ambitions were for the department moving forward.

“In all our actions or endeavors, we will strive to reflect our department’s core values, which are service, community, honor and integrity,” Bennett added.

Former Ovilla Police Chief Brian Windham resigned to pursue another opportunity on July 1, according to City Manager Pam Woodall.

“We are beyond pleased to have him [Bennett] lead the Ovilla Police Department,” Woodall concluded.
