OVILLA – The City of Ovilla continues to grow.

Recently, the Broadmoor Estates residential subdivision at the northwest corner of Westmoreland Road and Red Oak Creek Road broke ground as part of the city’s continuing growth.

Phase One of Broadmoor Estates will have 84 residential lots.

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved Broadmoor Estates in April and forwarded to the city council for a recommendation to approve the final plat application with multiple variances.

The Ovilla City Council did approve the variances in the preliminary plat phase. This included a dedicated 10-foot wide utility easement adjacent to the street right-of-way instead of a 15-foot wide utility easement at the rear lot lines; a variance to construct a wood screening fence along Westmoreland Road in lieu of an articulated masonry screening wall; a variance to construct an optional steel tubular fence or wood screening fence along Red Oak Creek Road instead of a masonry screening wall, and the owner also requested a variance for some lots with a 20-foot front building setback line in lieu of a 35-foot front building setback line.

Ovilla City Manager Pam Woodall said she did not know when building would begin, or when the first homes would be ready for move-in as there is still much work to be done.
