OVILLA – It should come as no surprise, the Ovilla City Council canceled its annual Heritage Day for 2020.

The cancellation was finalized at a council meeting held earlier this month.

City notes from the meeting stated, “Staff is unsure whether we will be able to hold the annual festivities, due to the recent increase in the number of citizens ill with the COVID-19 virus and the unnecessary exposure to this illness.”

Consent agenda were approved including an Interlocal Agreement Mutual Aid and a buildings agreement with Palomar Modular.

A public hearing was heard for a request regarding a Specific Use Permit application.

This application was filed by Pamilee Koval on behalf of Thomas Waits, owner of the property at 713 W. Main Street.

Council approved the SUP requesting a variance for outdoor fitness at the upcoming health smoothie and natural tea shop.

And to waive the city’s mid-year budget review due to recent personnel changes and a backlog of necessary reviews and reconciliations of financial records.

Other items approved included an ordinance to amend the current annual budget’s program of services, the approval of the location for a public works office facility, which will be a modular building next to the city’s police station.

Also approved was to award J&K Excavation, LLC, the work to be done on the Water Street Bridge Improvements Project using the company’s submitted alternate design.
