RED OAK – A 30-year-old Oak Leaf man died Saturday morning when the 1995 black Chevrolet Camera he was driving hit a tree at around 2:28 a.m.
Red Oak Police were called to the scene on the service road off the northbound side of Interstate-35.
The vehicle, driven by Kevin Mitchell Taylor, appeared to have been traveling northbound in the 400 block of N. I-35E.
The vehicle then left the interstate and crossed a large embankment towards the service road.
When the car crossed the service road, it collided with a large tree before coming to a stop.
Police reported dispatchers at the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 400 block of S. I-35E service road reporting a single-car major accident.
According to police, the caller advised it appeared the vehicle had left the roadway and collided with a large tree.
Red Oak Police Department and Red Oak Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene to investigate the single car accident.
Red Oak PD reported Taylor sustained life-ending injuries due to the impact of his car colliding into the tree.
Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Steve Eagan at approximately 4:42 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
