WILMER – The Wilmer city council approved a bid at last week’s city council meeting authorizing RT&E Rural Water Company the job for the construction of an 8-inch PVC sanitary sewer line on Serving Our Community Distribution Dr. and Goode Rd.

This sewer line is for the new fire station, and the amount is not to exceed $89,167 for construction.

RT&E Rural Water Company’s bid was the lowest of four bids that were as high as $195,690.

The vote passed 3-0, with Mayor Emmanuel Wealthy-Williams and councilmembers Jeff Steele, Phyllis Slough and Sergio Campos in attendance.

A supermajority was not present to vote on the city’s reallocation of funding between line items in the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 WEDC and WCDC budgets.

Council cast their vote for Mona Dixon unanimously as the city’s choice for the fourth member of the board of directors of the Dallas Central Appraisal District.

Dixon was nominated by the city of Lancaster.

The current incumbent is Michael Hurtt, who was also on the ballot and nominated by Duncanville, DeSoto and Richardson.

An interlocal cooperative agreement between the city of Wilmer and Star Transit to provide transportation services to the citizens, businesses and workers in the city saw no action at last week’s council meeting.

The Wilmer Economic Development Corporation, the city of Wilmer and the Wilmer Community Development Corporation have approved the agreement and the funding for the agreement.

This agreement, if passed, will allow Star Transit the ability to provide transportation services in the city.

The interlocal agreement would be a binding contract with a one-year term.

In a 3-0 vote, the Wilmer city council signed a five-year contract for its municipal solid waste agreement with Waste Management of Texas, Inc. for trash collection services.

The contract also authorized an option extension for one additional five-year term.

Council also passed in a 3-0 vote the city of Wilmer’s proposed 2020 employee insurance program.

Staff had recommended maintaining the current health insurance plans and moving the ancillary insurance to Cigna to allow for an additional one percent savings.
