WILMER – The city of Wilmer will have a community meeting Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the city’s community center located at 101 Davidson Plaza. With the elementary groundbreaking last month, next week’s meeting is a chance for the community to discuss their ideas for the new project.
The new Wilmer elementary school community meeting will include a discussion regarding the proposed boundary lines for the school.
There will also be discussion about the creation of a school principal’s profile in order to find the right person to lead the new elementary campus.
Back in September, the city of Wilmer held the official groundbreaking with Dallas Independent School Board Trustees and Dallas Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa in attendance, as well as Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price at the ceremony on E. Belt Line Rd.
“The school is due to open Aug. 2020,” Wilmer Mayor Emanuel Wealthy-Williams said.
Wilmer’s current population is about 4,000 people, and currently Wilmer students attend Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary, Kennedy-Curry Middle School, Wilmer-Hutchins High School or the Golden Rules Schools Charter School.
The new elementary school in Wilmer will be the first Dallas ISD elementary school in Wilmer since the Wilmer-Hutchins ISD was dissolved in 2006 after the United States Department of Justice approved the closure in Dec. 2005, according to Wikipedia.
“This is the beginning of a bright new legacy for Wilmer,” Wealthy-Williams said as over the months the process of the new elementary school creation has been set into motion.
“This will be the first school in the city since 2006. Our kids will finally be able to go to school in their own city.
Success of any city is made by one great decision at a time. This was an amazing move forward.”
