MIDLOTHIAN – Five years after Terri “Missy” Bevers was killed inside a Midlothian church, police said their investigation remains open and they are “determined to see this case reach closure.”

Authorities reportedly have received more than 3,000 tips since Bevers’ slaying.

Although the homicide remains unsolved and no arrests have been made, police reiterated they do not consider it a cold case.

Investigators have traveled across Texas and to other states in the last year to follow up on new leads, Midlothian police said.

Bevers, 45, had gone to Creekside Church of Christ on East U.S. Highway 287 early April 18, 2016, to set up for a fitness “boot camp” and was attacked shortly after arriving. Her students called police after finding her unresponsive about 5 a.m.

The mother of three from Red Oak died from puncture wounds to her head and chest.

Police reported nothing was taken from the church. Surveillance cameras recorded a person in SWAT-type gear walking through the halls of the church before Bevers arrived, swinging what appeared to be a hammer.

That person appeared to be about 5-8 and walked with a distinctive gait, with his or her feet turned out from the body, more so on the right foot.

Police said that gait may have been temporary, caused by an injury or medical condition.

Police also remain interested in a car seen in a parking lot near the church before Bevers was killed.

The vehicle, possibly a 2010-2012 Nissan Altima or 2010-2012 Infinity G37, was seen in surveillance footage driving slowly around a business, turning its headlights on and off and parking briefly.
