MILFORD – Milford ISD Superintendent Vernon Orndorff is proud of the technology initiatives recently introduced to Milford students during his time with the district.
The initiatives came through a $300,000 ESSER Fund grant that, in short, is part of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund.
Congress set aside approximately $13.2 billion with $30.75 billion of that money given to the Education Stabilization Fund through the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act.
Orndorff said, “When you look at that money, we wanted to do something that is sustainable and something that could support the academic side of improving our students’ academics and resources our teachers could use to enhance instruction in the classroom. We also wanted to provide for college career readiness, so it bolstered that too.”
Milford ISD looked at initiatives and identified a learning management system that allowed students and teachers to enhance learning using online resources.
“It prepares the students for the future since this is the direction a lot of careers, college even the military is going – you have to know how to navigate through those processes,” Orndorff said.
The district started with a consultant creating the more robust infrastructure, even to the point of fiber optic cabling throughout the entire ISD building.
