MIDLOTHIAN – The City of Midlothian kicked off the holidays with its annual tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 1, with 10-year-old Haley Hope Hughes given the honor of flipping the switch to light the majestic tree in downtown’s Heritage Park.
Festivities continued on Saturday, Dec. 5 with the Southern Star Christmas Celebration, where children took selfies with Santa and received a take-n-make activity pack. The Marine Corps Reserves also set up a Toys for Tots drop-off site for the day.
At 6 p.m., families lined the sidewalks of downtown Midlothian to enjoy the annual Light-Up Parade.
Ace Heating and Air Conditioning received the award for Greatest Use of Theme, which was Peace on Earth.
Mayor Richard Reno and his wife Tammy represented the Midlothian City Council in the parade as did the Council’s newest member, Walter Darrach and his family.
Other parade entries included the Midlothian Rotary Club’s vintage Buick and the equestrian team, which received the Creatures of Serenity award.
Rally Sportswear took top honors in the first-ever Midlothian Downtown Business Holiday Decorating Contest.
These events were made possible through the efforts of the Midlothian Parks and Recreation Department, Park Board volunteers, and generosity of sponsors: Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, Ash Grove, Earthtones Greenery, Manna House, United Rentals, and Midlothian’s Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Business Association.
