MIDLOTHIAN – A fatality traffic accident occurred in Midlothian Sunday night on US Highway 287, leaving two dead and one in the hospital.
The accident occurred at around 8:21 p.m., Jan. 23 when police responded to Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch calls about a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US Hwy 287 near Presidential Parkway.
Before Midlothian Police arrived, dispatch received an update stating the vehicle traveling in the southbound lane had struck a vehicle traveling northbound on US Hwy 287.
Bettye Stafford, 83, of Midlothian, driving the vehicle in the wrong direction and the driver of the second vehicle, Jyntri Tillery, 26, of Crowley were killed.
Tillery’s six-year-old daughter was transported to Children’s Hospital in Dallas after the collision and is currently in stable condition.
“At this time, investigators suspect that Ms. Stafford had left the parking lot of the Whataburger located at 2440 Presidential Parkway and turned left into the northbound lanes,” Midlothian Police Department said in a statement.
