During Tuesday night’s Rowlett City Council meeting, Mayor Tammy Dana-Bashian presented the Life Saving Award to Dr. Robert Megna for saving the life of a man at the Rowlett Community Centre.
The incident occurred at about 3:45 p.m. Dec. 30, when one of Rowlett’s pickleball players was at the community centre playing pickleball.
The man suffered a heart attack, and Megna, also an avid pickleball player, was there to take care of the situation. He directed someone to call 911 and began CPR.
He was able to resuscitate the victim with an automated external defibrillator.
After two surgeries and three stents, the man was back to playing pickleball.
Megna is the owner and director of Cardiovascular Health Solutions, a program specializing in cardiovascular and diabetes risk reduction and treatment, and Ferris Family Medicine, a family practice clinic.
He is one of the few physicians who holds certifications by both the American Board of Clinical Lipidology (diplomate, American Board of Clinical Lipidology) and American Society of Hypertension (ASH specialist in clinical hypertension).
Megna has a fellowship and master’s degree in metabolic and nutritional medicine and an advanced fellowship in anti-aging, regenerative and functional medicine.
He is board certified in integrative medicine, family medicine, integrative holistic medicine and anti-aging/ regenerative medicine.
“My good friend is here thanks to CPR... this is how we can protect ourselves, our communities and our families. The more people who know CPR the better off we’ll be for all of us,” Megna said.
