ELLIS COUNTY – May 7 is election day for city council seats in the area. The joint election for county, city and schools on Saturday, May 7, will begin its early voting on April 25 to 30, and May 2 and 3.

As a reminder too, a second election for the Republican and Democratic Primary runoff elections will be held on Tuesday, May 24 with early voting from May 16 to 20.

The city of Ennis canceled its election this year. Commissioner Honza ran unopposed for Ward 5 and Kameron Raburn ran unopposed for Ward 3. 

Commissioner Hejny, Ward 3, decided not to run for his seat again.

The city of Italy is holding a general election for three candidates with two-year terms with Luin McConnell, the lone incumbent, William Panther, Robert C. Hodge Jr., Quentin Dean Little, and David B. Barrington all vying for the two open seats.

There is also a Special Election for one candidate for one year, which Brooke Boyd and Troy Kowalsky are seeking to win.

  The City of Maypearl will be holding an election for two seats currently held by incumbents Mark Partin and John Wayne Pruitt, both running for re-election as well as additional challenger Robert Laake.

The city of Midlothian has both Place 3 and 4 on the May 7 ballot. Incumbent Theodore “Ted” Miller is hoping to keep his seat against challengers Ed Gardner, Anna Hammonds, and Dannion McLendon.

In Place 4, Clark Wickliffe is running unopposed.

The city of Milford did not respond by press time with information about the upcoming city council election candidates.

In Oak Leaf, Mayor Tom Leverentz is running unopposed as is Place 5 Cody Cockerham. In Place 4 Michelle Hillery, incumbent is hoping to keep her seat against challenger Lukeman Elchehimi.

Ovilla has three seats up for election Place 1, 3 and 5. In Place 3 David Griffin is running unopposed. In Place 1 Rachel Huber is not seeking re-election. Candidates running for that seat includes Kimberly Case and Brandon Collett. In Place 5 incumbent Michael Myers is hoping to keep his seat against challengers Sierra Killpack and Brad Piland.

The city of Palmer will have four hopefuls on the ballot in May to fill three seats including incumbents James Smith, Jorge Sotelo and Doug Young. Michael Heard is also running for an open seat, the only challenger who is not an incumbent. 

The city of Red Oak have Places 2, 4 and 5 up for re-election. In Place 2, incumbent Ben Goodwyn will keep his seat with no challengers. In Place 4, current councilmember Ron Wilson will be moving and not seeking re-election. Tim Lightfoot will be taking that seat with no challengers. In Place 5, incumbent Michael Braly will be vying for his seat against challenger Jeffrey Dean Smith.

In the city of Venus, Place 3 incumbent Jean Scott will face off against challenger Jessica Marie Kuykendall. In Place 4, Geronimo Hernandez, Jr. is vying to keep his seat against Dennis Arnold Roach, Jr., and in Place 5, Phyllis Lewis is not seeking re-election and that seat will be filled by either Drew Wilson Clayton or Alicia Lynn Rosales.

The city of Waxahachie have Places 1, 2 and 3 seats up for re-election in the May 7 city council race. In Place 1, incumbent David Hill is hoping to keep his seat against challenger Darrin Robinson. In Place 2, Mayor Doug Barnes is being challenged with two opponents, Patrick Souter and Johnny Bryant. The Place 3 incumbent Melissa Olson has one opponent – Chris Wright.

DALLAS COUNTY ELECTIONS NEAR ELLIS COUNTY

In the city of Hutchins there are two open seats with three candidates running and two candidates vying for mayor. Incumbent Mayor Mario is running against challenger Demarcus Odom. Odom currently sits on the Hutchins city council as a councilmember.

Incumbent’s Brenda Campbell and Stephen Nichols are running for the two open city council seats as is challenger Gerald Hollis.

The city of Wilmer has two seats open with incumbents Melissa Ramirez and Sergio Campos running for the open seats as well as challengers Pamela Wash and Laura Jacobs.
