ELLIS COUNTY – The City of Dallas and the Visiting Nurses Association of Texas have paused the Johnson & Johnson in-home vaccinations, which were scheduled to begin this week.

According to a news release from the City of Dallas, the FDA and the CDC recommended the postponement of the distribution of the vaccine and both agencies confirmed this course of action due to clotting incidents with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“Based on this guidance, the city will pause its in-home vaccine roll out until further notice,” the press release read.

In Ellis County, County Commission Paul Perry, pct. 3, said it was about two weeks ago he received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine through a private pharmacy.

“I felt weakness for about a day,” he said.

According to reports, blood clotting being associated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should be considered in light of the fact blood clotting is a possibility in Covid-19 patients finding themselves with a severe case of the illness.

While the Ellis County Vaccination Center is not using Johnson & Johnson, which is a one-jab alternative to the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, the decision on what vaccine will be used there is not up to the county.

Instead, it is solely determined by Baylor Scott & White and the Federal Government.

Perry said it is also very important to note for Ellis County residents that “the county is not determining what vaccine we are using here.”

While the Ellis County Vaccination Center has used both Moderna and Pfizer in the past depending on what was sent, at this time Pfizer is the vaccine being used exclusively there now.
