HUTCHINS – City of Hutchins Mayor Mario Vasquez said he was taken by surprise last week when Hutchins City Administrator Trudy Lewis resigned.
Lewis’ last day is Dec. 6. She did not respond by press time with a statement regarding her decision.
“As for why she resigned, she told me it was time for her to move on,” said Vasquez Monday night after a council meeting to discuss future steps. “Her resignation caught everyone off guard.”
Lewis was the city administrator for five years.
Vasquez said she was definitely a part of creating structure in Hutchins as well as direction for the city’s growth.
The mayor said: “We identified an interim to bridge us through the search process. Our Economic Development Commission Director Guy Brown will guide us through the process.”
The city will look for a candidate with a strong financial background and administration skills.
“Hutchins is a unique city,” Vasquez said. “We manage a $28 million budget, we also split the Inland Port with our sister city Wilmer.”
Vasquez concluded the city has many projects on the agenda and “we will be in no hurry to rush to make this decision, we just want to make the right choice.”
