HIT AND RUN LEAVES BICYCLIST DEAD

ALMA – Alvin Le Roy Short, 37, of Ennis was struck and killed Dec. 2 by an unknown driver.

At 5:45 a.m., DPS troopers were called to a fatality crash on the Interstate 45 southbound service road approximately 0.57 miles south of Alma in Ellis County.

The preliminary investigation indicates the unidentified vehicle was traveling south on the IH45 service road.

Short, a bicyclist, was also traveling south on the service road in front of the vehicle when the vehicle struck the bicyclist, causing Short to be thrown off the bicycle and onto the roadway.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety, the vehicle failed to stop and left the scene.

Short was pronounced deceased at the scene by Judge Dan Cox, pct. 3. He was taken to J. E. Keever Funeral Home in Ennis.

The investigation is still on-going, and there is no other information available at this time.
