RED OAK – At around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, July 23, Red Oak Police attempted to stop a black Hyundai Elantra driving at speeds over 100 miles per hour northbound on Highway 342 toward Lancaster.
Police originally identified the vehicle driving recklessly at Ovilla Road and Highway 342 and began to follow.
There were three occupants inside when the car began fleeing Red Oak police.
In roughly the 1400 block of Highway 342 and Red Oak Road the vehicle left the road, crashing into a ditch on the westbound side of the road and hitting a tree.
Upon impact, the vehicle spun around to face southbound.
Two of the three occupants of the car jumped out and fled into the woods, while a third occupant stayed with the vehicle and was detained by police.
Red Oak Police used a FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) to search the woods for moving objects and immediately found one of the occupants who was injured, and detained that suspect immediately from the woodline with no incidence.
The third occupant escaped.
The K-9 team in Red Oak was not on duty that evening, and no other local police departments had K-9s working Sunday morning either in order to find the missing suspect in the nearby woods.
Both Red Oak Police and Lancaster Police, as well as the Lancaster Fire Department reported to the scene.
Red Oak Police also found about an ounce of marijuana inside the crashed car as well.
