GLENN HEIGHTS – The City of Glenn Heights announced new community partnerships with AT&T, United Way, and Compudopt following a highly successful laptop giveaway that placed critical technology directly into the hands of Glenn Heights residents, according to a news release.

Through this collaborative effort, residents received free laptops equipped with Microsoft Office, fully funded and installed by AT&T, along with two years of complimentary tech support by Compudopt.

The initiative was designed to address the digital divide and ensure residents are prepared for education, employment, and personal growth in today’s increasingly digital world.

The laptop distribution directly advances Mayor Brown’s 21st-century city framework, which prioritizes modern infrastructure, educational access, and community health.

Digital connectivity is a foundational component of contemporary infrastructure, enabling participation in education, workforce development, telehealth, and civic life.

By expanding access to reliable technology, the City of Glenn Heights is strengthening long-term economic mobility, supporting educational attainment, and promoting overall community wellness.

The event’s impact was deeply personal for many participants.

One resident shared she is returning to school and did not know how she would afford a laptop to continue her education.

Another recipient described the moment simply and powerfully, stating that this was her “first computer ever.”

For many families, the laptops represent not only access to technology, but a renewed sense of possibility.

Mayor Sonja A. Brown reflected on the significance of the event for both the community and herself: “This was one of those moments that reminds you exactly why public service matters.

“Seeing the relief, the excitement, and the hope on our residents’ faces was incredibly powerful.

“These laptops are more than devices. They represent access, confidence, and opportunity. The impact of this event will stay with our residents, and it will stay with me.”

The laptops provide residents with a pathway to seek employment, continue their education, build digital skills, and access essential services that support economic stability and quality of life. With software installed and ongoing technical support available, recipients are now fully equipped for school, work, or personal enrichment.

Mayor Brown emphasized that this initiative marks a continued commitment to equity and access across the city,  “Closing the digital divide is not a one-time effort. It is an ongoing responsibility.

“I will continue to pursue partnerships and investments that ensure Glenn Heights residents are not left behind. When we invest in access, we invest in people.”

The City of Glenn Heights extends sincere appreciation to AT&T, United Way, and Compudopt for their partnership, leadership, and shared commitment to empowering communities through access to technology.
