Flooding leaves motorists stranded

FERRIS – Heavy rains this past week caused wide-spread flooding, stranding many motorists.

As the downpour deluged the Ferris part of Ellis County last week, at least one car got stuck under the overpass at the 5th Street exit.

The service road also flooded as the water rose from the heavy storm that swept through the area.

Ferris resident Terrance Murphy said, “This is not the fault of the City of Ferris, this is a problem that the Core of Engineers needs to address yet again.”

Another concern Murphy said is some people during the heavy rain might not see the gutters on the southbound service road in Ferris where there is high water rushing through after a downpour.

“Particularly in front of the Dairy Queen” he explained.

“If someone reversed their vehicle in the rain and did not see the large drop, that could be a disaster with the heavy rain rushing through that storm drain.”

No rain is expected this week in the Ellis County forecast – instead, just dangerously high temperatures.
