WAXAHACHIE – The former Catfish Plantation house that locals loved – and people from all over Texas came to visit due to rumors of ghosts – burned earlier this month after being converted into the home of Blind Pig Butcher and Specialty Market.
Catfish Plantation closed in August of 2017 after 30 years in business.
Jay Desimone eventually found the property at 814 Water St, Waxahachie, and spent the past two years getting ready to open Blind Pig Butcher and Specialty Market at the location.
Waxahachie Fire Rescue said the fire started at around 4:30 a.m. and was under control in about 15 minutes.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the fire resulted in the Blind Pig being closed until further notice.
At the business website it reads, “We would like to thank our first responders for their hard work in extinguishing the fire and keeping our neighbors safe.
“Please keep us in your prayers, Waxahachie, as we navigate the steps ahead.”
The Waxahachie community is said to be coming together to help the business, a farm-to-table destination offering meats, house-made sausages, cured specialties, and a curated pantry of organic foods.
Originally built in 1895 in Victorian style, the location was the primary residence for many families over the years.
In 1984, Tom and Melissa Baker converted it into Catfish Plantation.
