FERRIS – Area residents were recently displaced after a fire destroyed their home last week, fire officials said.

Numerous agencies responded to a house fire in the 2000 block of Ferris Road.

As first responders approached the 2,500-square foot home, heavy smoke was visible from Farm-to-Market Road 664 and Ewing Road, according to officials.

“We had fire personnel on scene in just over 90 seconds of receiving the tone,” said Ferris Fire Marshal and Battalion Chief Casey Greene. “The fire was wind driven and the structure was fully involved upon arrival.

“With the wind and lack of water supply infrastructure in that area, initial suppression was greatly hindered.”

The fire reportedly began in the courtyard/patio/terrace part of the home.

Greene said the cause of the fire “is currently undetermined, pending investigation from the Dallas County Fire Marshal Office.”

Ferris firefighters were called back to the home after putting it out, he said.

“There was an area on the A-side of the structure that I could not safely allow firefighter entry due to collapse hazard,” Greene said.

There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters.
