FERRIS – The Ferris man who was killed by a bull last week as reported by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department was identified as long-time resident Stanley Hugh Wright Jr.

Wright was 68 years old.

He died last Monday in the 200 block of James Road after a 2000-pound angus bull, who neighbors said had been bought at a sale barn and “was gentle like a pet” trampled Wright.

The bull was apparently anxious due to a second bull in the vicinity with a group of female cows in heat.

A Palmer resident who knew Wright well said, “Supposedly Stanley was in the pasture near the bull fixing the fence.

“No one knows for sure, but Stanley’s dad found him, and the bull was standing over him, pawing him. Pets are the worst kind because they will turn on you when you least expect it.”

Ellis County Deputies along with Ferris Emergency personnel and Careflite Ambulance Service responded to the scene minutes after a 911 call was made by Wrights’ father.

When deputies arrived, they found the bull destroying property. It also prevented first responders from administering help to the caller’s son. The bull was euthanized by deputies due to its behavior.

Wright was pronounced dead minutes after deputies and CareFlite arrived.
