ALMA
Alma seems to have an active animal population. Recently a resident posted, “Whoever has young black cows on Lake Tom Sawyer they are out running thru neighbor’s yards. This has been going on for over a week.” Apparently, there were about 10 one-year-old cows visiting neighborhoods unattended.
BARDWELL
Did you know Bardwell Lake was built in 1965 for flood control by the US Army Corps of Engineers? At Bardwell Lake, recreation for visitors includes boating, camping, fishing, and picnicking.
ENNIS
Ennis recently announced the hiring of Miriam Castillo as the new Economic Development Director. Castillo begins her job Oct. 6. She joins Ennis from the City of Laredo, where she served as the Economic Development Director for the past three years.
FERRIS
Ferris has an active animal shelter where a variety of little angels need good homes. Most recently the shelter worked with a rescue service organization to rehome six puppies at the shelter.
GARRETT
The Garrett city council held a public hearing last week to consider adopting a tax rate for the tax year 2025-206 at the proposed rate of $0.45000 per $100 of value.
GLENN HEIGHTS
Glenn Heights will be offering the Mayor’s Mobile Mammography Screening at the Glenn Heights City Center on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The screening is open to everyone with or without insurance. Appointments are required.
ITALY
Italy will be holding a comprehensive Town Hall meeting Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Italy Community Center, 108 Harpold. The Town Hall topics will allow residents to learn more about the comprehensive planning process, share ideas and connect with neighbors about the future of Italy.
MAYPEARL
Stay tuned to find out if Maypearl will be transitioning from May to November City elections in the future. Maypearl’s Mayor Chance Lynch did not respond about this most important transition for the city.
MIDLOTHIAN
Construction on North 7th Street has begun in Midlothian between Main Street and Avenue F in downtown. The area will be under construction for the next four weeks to reconfigure the parking spaces. To minimize disruption, only half of the street will be closed at a time, allowing access to nearby businesses, starting with the half closest to Avenue F, then proceeding with the half closest to Main Street. Traffic will not be possible during the construction.
MILFORD
Milford City Council Meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Milford Community Center, 109 S. Main St.
OAK LEAF
The Oak Leaf City Council voted to ratify its property tax revenue increase reflected in the 2025/2026 fiscal year budget. The meeting minutes were not readily available to confirm if this item was approved.
PALMER
Palmer City Council discussed an ordinance at its council meeting Thursday, Sept. 18 for a new section in its code of ordinances requiring pet owners to clean up after their pets in city parks and on private property. It is uncertain if this item passed as meeting minutes at Palmer’s website are not available.
PECAN HILL
Pecan Hill’s next regular city council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at Pecan Hill Municipal Building, 1094 S. Lowrance, Pecan Hill. At that meeting, staff pay increases will be discussed for approval.
RED OAK
Red Oak Police Officer Bicknell made the city’s name international when he visited the 9/11 Ringfinnan Garden of Remembrance in Kinsale, Ireland where 343 trees honor the firefighters who died on Sept. 11 in the line of duty in New York City. Bicknell placed Red Oak Fire Rescue and Red Oak Police Department on the visitor wall there as a reminder to never forget the tragedy.
