ENNIS – The City of Ennis is warning residents that the Ennis Planning and Zoning Commission’s name and likeness are being misused in a fake billing scam.

The scam involves fraudulent invoices sent to legitimate businesses that appear to be from the City of Ennis, according to the City of Ennis Facebook page.

The invoices are sent via emails from addresses ending in .usa, and not from the official City of Ennis emails that end in .gov.

The scammers request payment through wire transfers, “Please be aware that the City of Ennis will never ask for payment via wire transfer,” city management confirmed.

“The City of Ennis only uses OpenGov to send statements.

Payments should be made by check, money order, or credit card. There will be no requests for wire transfers.”

Ennis Police is also actively investigating these cases as fraud. They suggest that given the prominence of scams, always double-check the validity of any invoices received and if you are unsure call to confirm.
If you receive a scammer invoice, contact Assistant Director of Planning and Development Troy Foreman at (972) 875-6442, ext. 2309, or email tforeman@ennistx.gov.

You can also reach the Ennis Police Department at (972) 875-4462.
