Ennis murder suspect on the run for 10 years arrested in Mexico

ENNIS – While the Ennis Police Department did not respond to additional questions regarding a press release last week, what has been confirmed is there has been the arrest of a woman who could be the second murder suspect in the death of Mariah Gonzales.

Gonzales was murdered and her body found stabbed, burned and dumped on the side of Knighthurst Drive in March, 2012.

A police department spokesperson said they are still uncertain of any additional details.

What else the news release revealed was the Ennis Police Department received a call from the Texas Department of Public Safety, advising they had been contacted by the Mexican Federal Police.

The Mexican Federales told Ennis PD they had a woman named Jennifer Puente, who would now be in her late 20s, in custody “for Ms. Gonzales’ murder” the press release stated.

The United States Marshals Service is working to confirm the woman in custody is Puente. After confirmation, the extradition process will begin.

Puentes is the second suspect in Gonzales’ murder. She has been on the run for the past 10 years in the stabbing and killing of the then 15-year-old Gonzales.

Joe Alvarado, 40, was arrested in March of 2012 for his part in the crime.

He is serving a 34-year prison sentence for the murder, with an additional 20 years for tampering with evidence.
