ENNIS – Ennis had two significant resignations last week.

City Commissioner for Ward #1, Rowdy Pruitt stepped down from his elected position as commissioner after eight years just days after the resignation of Ennis City Manager Marty Nelson.

A media release from Ennis Mayor Kameron K. Raburn from Aug. 8 stated, “Today, Commissioner Rowdy Pruitt resigned from the Ennis City Commission, effective immediately.

“Earlier this morning, Commissioner Pruitt filed a letter of resignation with the City Secretary’s Office citing increased demands on his business and family obligations.

“After careful consideration, he has decided that stepping down from his position as a city commissioner is in the best interest of his constituents.”

Pruitt was elected in May of 2016 and the release stated, “he has been an advocate for the progress of our community representing the citizens of Ward #1.”

In accordance with the City of Ennis Home Rule Charter, the process to fill the vacant commission seat began immediately with an election being ordered to fill the vacancy.

“To that end, the media release promised ‘a smooth transition to maintain continuity in governance and to uphold the trust of our citizens.’”

Details regarding the election date and candidate filing process will be announced soon.

Assistant City Manager Daniel Ortiz-Hernandez will serve as interim city manager while city commissioners search for Ennis’ next city manager.
