OVILLA – The Ovilla City Council voted to continue to retain The Ellis County Press as its paper of record at a city council meeting last week.

Also on the council agenda was an ordinance to discuss amending the table of land uses to provide for a bed and breakfast facility. The item was for discussion only along with a public hearing. The ordinance item will be on the next agenda for the Planning and Zoning Commissioner before back on the city council agenda for final approval.

Currently the city code does not specifically allow for a bed and breakfast. The ordinance if passed will allow this type of business in Ovilla as well as set specific regulations.

City Council also presented the Fire Department with a proclamation in recognition of their service while declaring October as fire prevention month in Ovilla.

The Yellow Rose Chapter of the Texas Municipal Clerks Association swore in new officers this week. Ovilla’s City Secretary Bobbie Jo Taylor was sworn in as the chapter treasurer along with Caryn Stevens, City Secretary, City of Red Oak who was sworn in as the new historian. Both will serve a two-year term and received $500 scholarships to continue their education. Other officers sworn in along with Taylor and Stevens included Hutchin’s City Secretary Cynthia Olguin, who was sworn in as vice-president, Cleburne’s City Secretary Ivy Peterson, who was sworn in as secretary,  and Balch Springs City Secretary Cindy Gross, who was sworn in as the chapter president.
